Getting there

By train and bus

The nearest station is Kawaguchiko Station on the Fujikyu Railway. Oike Park is approximately 15 minutes away on foot. Alternatively, take the Kawaguchiko sightseeing Red Line bus and get off at the “Herb Hall” stop, immediately beside the venue area. Public transport is recommended on the fireworks day.

By car

From Kawaguchiko IC on the Chuo Expressway, drive towards Lake Kawaguchi for approximately 10 minutes. Approximately 500 free temporary parking spaces are available around Oike Park and other lakeside areas. Heavy congestion is expected, however, so arriving by around 15:00–16:00 is recommended. Car parks nearest the venue may fill up early. Consider using paid parking around Kawaguchiko Station and walking from there instead.

Traffic restrictions

Between 19:30 and 20:30 on the event day, some roads around Oike Park are closed to vehicles, from the road in front of the municipal car park to the traffic lights in front of Kawaguchiko Police Box. Allow plenty of time for your journey.

Paid seating and tickets

There is no paid seating at the Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi Mountain-Opening Fireworks. The display can be viewed free of charge.

Lesser-known viewing spots

The area around the main Oike Park venue attracts many visitors, but the fireworks can also be enjoyed from a little farther away. These three locations offer possibilities for a comparatively relaxed viewing experience.

  • The lakeshore around Kozantei Ubuya On the northern side of Lake Kawaguchi, the lakeshore near Kozantei Ubuya is a popular local viewing spot. With relatively few obstructions, it is known for views combining Mount Fuji, the lake and the fireworks. Being across the water from the launch area also gives beautiful views of the reflections.

  • Yagizaki Park On the southern shore, Yagizaki Park is a beautiful park with lavender fields. The Kawaguchiko Herb Festival takes place around the same period, allowing visitors to enjoy the fireworks amid the flowers' fragrance. Since it is a little farther from the main venue, the atmosphere may be comparatively relaxed.

  • Ubuyagasaki This scenic headland projects into the eastern part of the lake and faces Mount Fuji. It is a suitable distance from the launch area and is recommended for visitors hoping to photograph the mountain together with the fireworks.

Frequently asked questions

Q. How crowded does it get? A. This event is generally considered less crowded than the larger Kawaguchiko Lake Festival, but it still attracts approximately 30,000 visitors in a typical year. Oike Park becomes particularly busy from the evening, so arrive early to secure a good viewing position.

Q. What should I bring? A. Although the event takes place in early July, Lake Kawaguchi is approximately 800 m above sea level, and temperatures can drop sharply after sunset.
