Evening Wisteria Illumination at Ashikaga Flower Park with Daytime Nemophila Exploration in Ibaraki Prefecture – Spring Journey

Hitachi Seaside Park (Kokuritsu Hitachi Kaigan Koen) sits along the Pacific coast in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, displaying rotating seasonal blooms throughout the year. Spring brings nemophila, daffodils, and tulips; early summer features poppies and roses; summer showcases zinnias and sunflowers; autumn displays kochia and cosmos; winter offers ice tulips. Revered since ancient times for its dramatic natural beauty, the site attracted Tokugawa Mitsukuni during the Edo period, who composed a poem: "Waves crashing against the Kamiiso rocks, the shattered moon returns as one." A torii gate now stands on the offshore reef at the presumed landing site, serving as both shrine symbol and Oarai Town's most recognizable landmark. Ashikaga Flower Park – 2026 Tale of Wisteria: The Great Wisteria Festival CNN designated Ashikaga Flower Park among the "World's 10 Dreamiest Travel Destinations." Night illumination runs April 19–May 17, 2026. The park houses a 160-year-old wisteria specimen alongside over 350 additional wisteria trees. A 1,000-square-meter trellis system displays this heritage tree together with white wisteria and yellow laburnum, creating floral tunnel passages. Wisteria blooms sequentially in light pink, purple, white, and yellow across a roughly one-month flowering window. CNN compared this spectacle to Avatar's "Tree of Souls."
