Information as of July 2026. Check the official town or tourism information before travelling.

Held each summer in Kaminoseki, Kumage District, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the Kaminoseki Suigun Festival Fireworks takes place around Murotsu Port and the Kaminoseki Strait, an area with a long history as a maritime passage. Approximately 1,500 fireworks illuminate the sky and sea against the harbour's night scenery. Because the display takes place in a narrow strait, the sound can echo between the surrounding landforms and add to the impact.

Stalls sell local seafood and snacks, while the festival programme includes stage performances and community activities before the fireworks.

Getting there

The venue can be reached by public transport or car.

By train and bus From Yanai Station on the JR Sanyo Main Line, take a Bocho Bus towards Kaminoseki and get off in the Murotsu area. Check the current bus timetable and your return connection before travelling, as evening services can be limited and busy after the fireworks.

By car Traffic restrictions and event-use parking arrangements may change from year to year. If driving, follow the current town and event guidance and attendants' directions rather than relying on ordinary roadside-station parking availability during the festival.

Paid seating and tickets

Paid viewing areas are available for the 2026 event.

  • Area A, second-floor terrace of the General Cultural Centre
    • Price: ¥5,000 per seating space, plus ¥500 per person. Each space accommodates up to 6 people.

Kaminoseki Kaikyotei restaurant package A two-hour all-you-can-drink package associated with the roadside-station restaurant is listed at ¥6,000; it is not clear whether that amount is per person or per reservation. Confirm the current package terms directly before booking.

Advance booking is required for the paid areas. Check the current official event page because sales periods and availability can change.

Alternative viewing spots

The event's main public area is around Murotsu Port and the roadside station. For other viewpoints, choose only public, open locations and follow event-day traffic and safety restrictions.

  1. Nagashima-side shoreline across Kaminoseki Ohashi Public shoreline locations on the Nagashima side can offer a more distant view back toward the Murotsu event area. Do not confuse these with Michi-no-Eki Kaminoseki Kaikyo, which is on the Murotsu side.

  2. Quays farther from the busiest part of Murotsu Port Open public waterfront sections may provide a calmer, more distant view. Stay outside restricted working-port areas and follow staff instructions.

  3. Public elevated viewpoints around Kaminoseki Higher public locations can offer views over the strait. Do not enter private land, closed roads or restricted areas simply to obtain a view.

Safety notice Do not stop on Kaminoseki Ohashi to watch the fireworks. Use designated or clearly public viewing areas and obey event-day restrictions.
