Pedaling Through Nara and Osaka's Ikoma Mountains: A Full-Day Adventure

This urban park spreads across the base of Mount Wakakusa in Nara City and anchors any visit to the region with world-class attractions. Tōdai-ji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine stand among its most celebrated landmarks. Mount Wakakusa itself delivers sweeping vistas over the city landscape and hosts the annual "Wakakusa Yamayaki" mountain burning ceremony each January. Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park. A Kansai standout featuring an aerial bicycle experience. Operating for nearly a century, this mountaintop venue sits atop Mount Ikoma and requires no admission fee. Beyond the iconic deer encounters Nara is known for, visitors can try the unique sensation of pedaling through the air on the monorail bicycle. The park operates 27 attractions total, with crowd favorites including the panda gondola, flying tower, go-karts, and mini-golf. Closure Schedule: The park shuts down every Thursday (except August 13) plus May 8, August 12, September 8–9, September 25, and December 7 through winter's end. On closed dates, tours redirect to Hirakata Park instead. Maintenance will suspend the monorail bicycle from March 7 onward; reopening timing will be announced. Hirakata Park.
