The Futtsu Citizens' Fireworks Festival in Futtsu, Chiba, is a popular summer event held at Futtsu Beach on the shores of Tokyo Bay. Launched in 2015 thanks to the enthusiasm of local residents, the festival celebrates its 11th edition this year. Around 2,000 fireworks will be launched, including spectacular large 10-gō fireworks and underwater fireworks that reflect across the sea. One of the festival's biggest attractions is the chance to enjoy powerful fireworks up close while feeling the sea breeze.

Information current as of July 2026. Be sure to check the official website for the latest updates before heading out.

Highlights

The festival's signature feature is its underwater fireworks. Because the venue faces the sea, the fireworks are reflected on the water, creating symmetrical patterns of light above and below the horizon. This type of presentation is unique to a beachside fireworks festival and cannot be seen at inland riverside events.

Large 10-gō shells will also be launched. Although the scale of approximately 2,000 fireworks is smaller than that of major festivals, the viewing areas are less overwhelmingly crowded, making this a well-balanced event where visitors can watch the show in a relaxed atmosphere.
