Shinshu Ueda Grand Fireworks Festival 2026: A Summer Tradition Illuminating Ueda’s Night Sky

The Shinshu Ueda Grand Fireworks Festival is a major summer event that vividly lights up the night sky over Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, attracting large crowds every year. Held along the Chikuma River, the festival features approximately 8,000 fireworks launched in sync with music. Their power and beauty are sure to leave visitors deeply impressed. Another highlight is the competition between 3 local fireworks companies, each showcasing elaborately designed fireworks that bloom across the night sky one after another.

Please note that Ueda also hosts a summer festival called “Ueda Wasshoi” in the city center on July 25 (Sat.), but this article covers the Shinshu Ueda Grand Fireworks Festival held along the Chikuma River riverbed. Be careful not to confuse the two events.

1. Free Riverbed Areas Around the Venue

2. Around Ueda Bridge

There are few obstructions around the bridge, making it a good spot for taking in the entire fireworks display. However, please be especially careful not to stop on the bridge in a way that obstructs pedestrian traffic.
