Kimono Return Times: Same-Day Deadlines, Next-Day Return and Hotel Return Explained

Next-day return: what you need to know

• You keep the kimono overnight and bring it back before 10:00 the next morning, to the same shop.
• The set can be worn again in the morning: this is how guests get dawn at Fushimi Inari or an empty Sensoji at 07:00, then return by 10:00.
• Take the set off at your hotel carefully: untie the obi by loosening the cords in reverse order, fold the kimono loosely along its seams, and put everything in the bag provided. Nobody expects a professional fold, only no creases from a chair.
• Do not sleep in it, and keep it away from food. Normal wear is expected; heavy staining may carry a cleaning fee.

Days that need it: Sumida River Fireworks, Gion Matsuri's Yoiyama evenings, temple night illuminations in Kyoto, Kamakura and other long day trips, and any dinner in kimono.

Hotel return: what you need to know

• Staff collect the set from your hotel; you leave it, in its bag, with the front desk by the time agreed when you book.
• Your hotel must be within the shop's collection area; tell us the hotel name when booking and we confirm.
• It is the right choice when the day ends far from the shop, when you have small children asleep by 19:00, or when you simply do not want a 09:30 errand.
• The price is the same as next-day return; the two are not combined.

What if I am late for a same-day return?

Call the shop as soon as you know. If you arrive after 18:00 without an arrangement, the set is treated as a second rental day and charged accordingly, which is far more than the ¥1,100 add-on. The add-on exists so that never happens; when in doubt, add it.

Cancellation and date changes

Cancelling more than two days before is free; the day before is 50%; the same day is 100%. Changing the date without cancelling is free with 24 hours' notice. Weather is the usual reason to change; the rainy-day kimono guide is the alternative.

Plan your return

1. Decide the last place you want to be in the kimono.
2. If it is after 17:00 or more than 40 minutes from the shop, add next-day or hotel return.
3. If your evening ends at a bath, check the onsen's rules first, then take the set off before bathing; the tattoos and kimono guide covers onsen policies.
4. Set a 17:15 alarm for same-day returns.

FAQ

Can I return to the other shop? No; Tokyo sets return to Asakusa and Kyoto sets to Kiyomizu.

Can I extend for two nights? Book two rental days; next-day return is a single extension to 10:00.

Does the shop open earlier than 09:00 for next-day returns? Returns are accepted from 09:00; before 10:00 is the deadline, so the window is one hour. If you cannot make it, hotel return is the alternative.

What about the hair ornaments? DECO accessories are rented and come back with the set; anything you bought yourself stays yours.

Is there a late fee if my train is delayed? Call; a delay with a call ahead is handled kindly. Silence after 18:00 is what triggers the second-day charge.
