Abe River Fireworks Festival

The "Abe River Fireworks Festival" (安倍川花火大会), beloved as a summer tradition in Shizuoka City (静岡市), is a historic event that has continued since 1953, held in remembrance of war dead and for regional revitalization. Attracting numerous spectators every year, its scale and power are among the largest in Shizuoka Prefecture.

  • Date & Time: July 18th (Sat), 2026, 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Venue and Access from Nearest Station: Held at the Abe River riverbed (安倍川河川敷) (around the upstream side of Abe River Bridge (安倍川橋) and downstream left bank of Anzai Bridge (安西橋)). As it's about a 35-minute walk from JR Shizuoka Station (JR静岡駅), using public transportation is recommended. Traffic regulations will be in effect on surrounding roads on the day, and parking is limited, so early travel is essential.
  • Number of Fireworks & Visitors: Approximately 15,000 fireworks are launched. Annually, it attracts a large number of visitors from both within and outside the prefecture.
  • Availability of Paid Seating: For information on paid viewing seats, please check the official website for the latest updates.
  • Hidden Gems/Secret Spots: From the west side of Mochimune Fishing Port (用宗漁港), a little distance from the venue, near where hot springs are being dug, you can view the fireworks away from the crowds. It may also be possible to see them from high-rise buildings in Shizuoka city center or from Nihondaira (日本平).

Atami Sea Fireworks Festival

The Atami Sea Fireworks Festival (熱海海上花火大会) is a signature event in Atami (熱海), held more than 10 times throughout the year. Because the fireworks are launched in Atami Bay (熱海湾), which is shaped like a "mortar" surrounded by mountains on three sides, the sound of the fireworks reverberates, creating a powerful acoustic effect as if you were in a stadium. The "Dai-Kuchu Niagara" (大空中ナイアガラ - Grand Aerial Niagara) that concludes the show is a must-see.

  • Dates (2026): 15 shows through the year: April 26 (Sun), May 24 (Sun), July 20 (Mon, holiday) and 26 (Sun), August 5 (Wed), 9 (Sun), 18 (Tue) and 24 (Mon), September 13 (Sun), October 12 (Mon, holiday) and 25 (Sun), November 8 (Sun) and 23 (Mon, holiday), and December 6 (Sun) and 25 (Fri).
  • Time: Usually 8:20 PM - 8:40 PM; in July and August, 8:15 PM - 8:40 PM.
  • Venue and Access from Nearest Station: The fireworks are launched over Atami Bay, from the Atami Port quay to the sea-fishing facility (熱海港海釣り施設), and the whole waterfront from Atami Sun Beach (熱海サンビーチ) to Atami Port serves as the viewing area. It is about a 20-minute walk from JR Atami Station (JR熱海駅).
  • Number of Fireworks: About 5,000 per show, ending with the Grand Aerial Niagara.

  • Tips: Summer shows draw the biggest crowds, so arrive early to find a spot along the waterfront, and check the official Atami tourism website on the day in case of cancellation due to weather or sea conditions.
