The Atami Sea Fireworks Festival is a historic event that has been held since 1952年(昭和27年), and is one of Atami’s signature events, taking place several times throughout the year. Because the launch site is Atami Bay, a bowl-shaped bay surrounded by mountains on three sides, the sound of the fireworks echoes dramatically, creating an experience that feels like being inside a natural stadium. The finale, especially, features the spectacular “Great Aerial Niagara,” which fills the entire night sky with silver light and captivates everyone who comes to see it.

Venue and Map
The Atami Sea Fireworks Festival takes place in Atami Bay, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Atami Bay has a distinctive landscape, surrounded by mountains on three sides. This bowl-shaped structure causes the sound of the fireworks to reverberate, creating powerful acoustics like those of a natural stadium. The launch area extends from the 7.5m quay at Atami Port to the sea-fishing facility, while Atami Sun Beach and Shinsui Park are the main viewing areas.
Access
The nearest station to the Atami Sea Fireworks Festival is JR Atami Station. Atami Sun Beach, the main viewing area, is about a 15-minute walk from Atami Station, while Shinsui Park is about a 20-minute walk away.
Roads around Atami Station and the venue are expected to be extremely crowded on the day of the fireworks festival. Traffic restrictions are also put in place on summer event dates, so using public transportation is strongly recommended. To avoid the peak crowds, it is best to arrive at Atami Station by 15:00~16:00 at the latest.
Atami Station is also extremely crowded after the event, so purchasing your return ticket in advance or charging your IC card beforehand will make the journey smoother. If you are heading toward Ito or Shimoda, you may want to consider boarding at JR Kinomiya Station instead. The ticket gates are particularly crowded around 21:00~22:00, so visitors are encouraged to travel at different times where possible.
Parking options include the Atami Municipal East Parking Lot, Atami Municipal Shinsui Park No. 1 Parking Lot, and Atami Municipal Shinsui Park No. 2 Parking Lot. However, these lots are very likely to fill up early on the day of the fireworks festival, so plan accordingly.
Paid Seating and Tickets
The Atami Sea Fireworks Festival may not offer general paid viewing seats, or such seats may be extremely limited. However, some hotels and facilities offer special viewing areas exclusively for guests, rooftop viewing seats, or plans that include transportation.
For example, Marine Spa Atami sometimes offers reserved seats on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing guests to watch the fireworks directly in front of the launch site. Atami Castle also sells paid viewing seats that include admission, allowing visitors to enjoy both the fireworks and the nighttime view. Guests staying at accommodations affiliated with the Atami Onsen Hotel and Ryokan Cooperative Association may be able to enter the “Guest-Only Viewing Area” set up inside Shinsui Park along the coast.
These paid seats and special plans are highly popular and are expected to sell out early. Please check the official website of each facility for details.
Lesser-Known Viewing Spots
The Atami Sea Fireworks Festival can be viewed from a wide area. Here are 3 lesser-known spots where you can enjoy the display comfortably while avoiding the crowds.
Around Kinomiya Station After exiting the ticket gates at JR Kinomiya Station, head to the right. From the slope leading toward Atami Plum Garden, you can quietly watch the fireworks rising in the distance over the sea from an elevated position. Since it is somewhat far from the venue, the sense of immersion is reduced, but it is recommended for those who want to relax and enjoy the display away from the crowds.
The Atami Castle and Nishikigaura Hills From Atami Castle, you can look down over both the fireworks and Atami’s nighttime scenery. It is particularly popular with couples as a romantic viewing spot. Atami Castle charges admission, but special viewing seats may also be available on the day of the fireworks festival.
The hills around MOA Museum of Art and Momoyama From the elevated areas around the MOA Museum of Art and toward Momoyama, you can enjoy distant views of the fireworks while avoiding the crowds. These spots are recommended for anyone who wants to take in the fireworks spreading across Atami Bay in a calm atmosphere.
In addition, the eastern side of Atami Sun Beach is a popular, classic viewing spot with clear views of the entire display and its reflections on the water. The area around Shinsui Park Zone 3 and Nagisa Deck is also considered a good compromise between a powerful view and avoiding the heaviest crowds.
