The venue for the Lake Suwa Festival Fireworks is on Lake Suwa, in front of Suwa City Lakeside Park. Since fireworks are launched from platforms set up on the lake, there are few obstructions around the lake, allowing for wide-ranging views of the fireworks. Access

On the day of the Lake Suwa Festival Fireworks, significant congestion is expected every year. The use of public transportation is strongly recommended.

Access by Train

The nearest station is Kami-Suwa Station (上諏訪駅) on the JR Chuo Main Line (JR中央本線), approximately a 10-minute walk from the venue. On the day of the festival, it is recommended to arrive in the Kami-Suwa Station area by 3:00 PM. JR East (JR東日本) will operate special temporary trains for the fireworks festival.

Notes on Congestion:

• During the return period (8:00 PM – 12:00 AM), the ticket gates at Kami-Suwa Station will be separated by direction.
  • For northbound trains (towards Chino (茅野), Fujimi (富士見), Kobuchizawa (小淵沢), Kofu (甲府), Shinjuku (新宿)): East Exit (facing National Route 20).
  • For southbound trains (towards Shimosuwa (下諏訪), Okaya (岡谷), Shiojiri (塩尻), Matsumoto (松本)): West Exit temporary gate.
• The station premises and trains will be as crowded as Tokyo's rush hour, so it is necessary to allow plenty of time for travel.
• If using an IC card (such as Suica, Pasmo, or ICOCA), ensure you have sufficient funds pre-charged to ensure smooth travel. A Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass) is also valid on JR lines, but be aware of potential queues at ticket gates if you need to show your pass.

Access by Car

From the Suwa Interchange (諏訪IC) on the Chuo Expressway (中央自動車道), it usually takes about 15 minutes to reach the venue. However, on the day of the event, heavy traffic jams are expected, especially in Suwa City, and it may take 2-3 hours to get from Suwa IC to the venue.

Parking:

• Approximately 3,000 temporary parking spaces will be available, but all require advance reservations. Without a reservation, there will be almost no parking available on the day.
• Some parking lots may not allow vehicles to exit until 11:00 PM.
• Service areas on the expressway will also be extremely crowded, so it is advisable to avoid coming by car or to travel much earlier.

Paid Seating and Tickets

To comfortably enjoy the Lake Suwa Festival Fireworks, using paid viewing seats is recommended.

Ticket Types and Sales:

• General sales for paid viewing seats are primarily conducted via online lottery.
• Online lottery sales were held from Monday, June 8 to Sunday, June 21, 2026.
• Currently (as of July 14, 2026), a second round of general lottery sales is open on Ticket Pia (チケットぴあ) until 11:59 PM on Sunday, July 19. Eligible areas include the Central Area, Stone Sculpture Area, Lakeside Area, Intermittent Spring North Area, and Food Court Area.
• Tickets for the Wind Wave Pier (ウインドウェーブ桟橋) are also available through Seven Tickets (セブンチケット).
• "Atouch Ticket" (Atouchチケット), which allows ticket purchase and entry to be completed entirely on LINE, has also been introduced.
• Paid viewing seat tickets may also be offered as a return gift for "Furusato Nozei" (hometown tax donation).

Price Guide:

• Some seats start from approximately ¥3,500 (about $23, based on 1 USD ≈ 150 JPY) (¥1,000 / about $7 for elementary school children and younger), up to about ¥12,500 (about $83) per person for a special 16-person box seat.
• The box seats on the Wind Wave Pier offer an excellent location, just 250 meters from the launch site, and are equipped with conference pipe chairs and dedicated restrooms.
• Children aged 3 and above require a ticket. Children under 3 years old do not need a ticket if they watch from a guardian's lap.

• Tateishi Park (立石公園) Located on a hill overlooking Lake Suwa, this scenic spot has been selected as one of the "100 Best Sunset Spots in Shinshu" (信州の夕景スポット100選). It becomes extremely crowded on the day of the fireworks festival, requiring early arrival to secure a spot.

• The fireworks can be seen from far away because they are launched at high altitude, but a location within 30 minutes of the lakeshore is ideal if you want to enjoy the sound and reflections on the water
• Kamisuwa Station becomes extremely crowded after the event. Limited Express Azusa services toward Tokyo, especially those departing between 21:30〜22:30, fill up quickly. Reserve a seat in advance
• Because the festival takes place during the Obon period, expressways in Nagano Prefecture and toward Tokyo are also congested on the return journey

What to Bring & Attire

Even on a summer night, the lakeside of Lake Suwa can get chilly, so it's wise to bring a light jacket or something to wear over your clothes. If you plan to sit for an extended period, a leisure sheet or folding chair will be convenient. As the event often proceeds even in light rain, be sure to bring rain gear (a poncho or raincoat). Please note that umbrellas are prohibited in sajiki (box) seating areas. Other useful items include insect repellent spray, a towel, drinks, light snacks, and a radio for emergencies.

Accommodation

Hotels and ryokan around Lake Suwa (Suwa, Shimosuwa, Chino, and Okaya) can be difficult to book as much as 1 year in advance. Hot-spring inns along the lake (Kamisuwa Onsen and Shimosuwa Onsen) are especially competitive, as some popular properties offer views of the fireworks directly from guest rooms.
