The Nagato Fireworks Festival vividly illuminates Nagato City’s summer night sky and is one of the largest and most popular fireworks festivals in western Japan. Held at the Minato Fish Market, the festival captivates spectators with fantastical fireworks reflected on the sea and powerful large-caliber shells exploding overhead.
Introduction
The Nagato Fireworks Festival is a large-scale event cherished as one of Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture’s signature summer traditions. In the lively atmosphere unique to a port town, approximately 3000 fireworks are launched one after another from barges at sea, vividly illuminating Nagato’s night sky and the surface of the water. Because the launch site is close to the viewing area, the spectacle is truly breathtaking.

Venue and Map
The main venue for the Nagato Fireworks Festival is the Yamaguchi Prefectural Fisheries Cooperative Association Minato Fish Market, located in Higashifukawa, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Fireworks are launched from near the breakwater in Fukawa Bay. Since the launch site is close to the viewing areas, you can experience the impact of the sound and light up close. Another highlight is the many open seaside spaces where you can enjoy the fireworks reflected on the water.
The Senzakitchen roadside station is located near the venue, but the main festival site is the Minato Fish Market.
Access
Public transportation is recommended for reaching the Minato Fish Market, the venue for the Nagato Fireworks Festival.
By Train
The nearest station is Nagatoshi Station on the JR San’in Main Line. It takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to walk from Nagatoshi Station to the venue. On the day of the fireworks festival, the route from the station to the venue can become extremely crowded with pedestrians after 19:00, making it difficult to move forward. We recommend taking a train that arrives at Nagatoshi Station by 18:30 at the latest.
By Car
The drive from the Mine IC on the Chugoku Expressway to Nagato via National Route 316 takes approximately 40 to 45 minutes.
Several parking areas will be available near the venue, but heavy congestion is expected. Parking lots at Yamaguchi Bank, Nagato City Hall, Nagato City Central Exchange Plaza, JA Yamaguchi Prefecture, A Coop, and other locations can be used. However, parking within the fisheries cooperative grounds is not available.
The roads immediately around the venue become severely congested from the evening onward, so you should avoid driving directly to the site.
Free shuttle buses will operate between Fuji Nagato and Minato Market. Operating hours are 17:30~19:30 and 20:45~21:30 after the fireworks end. Consider using a park-and-ride service: parking at designated lots such as Fuji Nagato and taking the shuttle bus can help you avoid the worst of the congestion.
Traffic Restrictions
Traffic restrictions may be implemented around the venue on the day of the fireworks festival. As the roads around the venue become particularly congested from the evening onward, we strongly recommend allowing plenty of extra time and using public transportation or the shuttle bus.
Be Careful of the Last Train Home
After the fireworks end, the area around Nagatoshi Station becomes extremely crowded with people heading back to the station. Check the JR last-train schedule and head to the station early so you do not miss your train.
Reserved Seating and Tickets
Reserved seating will be available at the 2026 Nagato Fireworks Festival.
Each reserved table seats 4 people, and the price is 10,000円 (tax included). Benefits include a reserved-parking ticket (limited availability), a snack set, and a priority shopping wristband (each shop has a priority lane for reserved-seat guests).
Applications for reserved seating were accepted via LINE, with a deadline of 2026年7月4日(土). All reserved seats are already sold out, so purchasing one at this point will be difficult.
Lesser-Known Viewing Spots
Here are several lesser-known spots for those who want to enjoy the Nagato Fireworks Festival at a more relaxed pace.
1. The Elevated Area Around Minato Park
The elevated area around Minato Park, near the Minato Fish Market, offers an excellent view of the entire venue. Since it is a little farther from the launch site, it is recommended for those who want to watch the fireworks while avoiding the crowds. You can spread out a picnic sheet in the park’s open surroundings and relax as you enjoy the show.
2. The Pedestrian Walkway on Minato Bridge
The pedestrian walkway on Minato Bridge, a short distance from the Minato Fish Market, is another spot where you can watch the fireworks. From the bridge, you can enjoy both the fireworks rising into the sky and their beautiful reflections on the sea. However, space is limited because it is a walkway, so arriving early is essential.
3. Around the Misuzu Kaneko Memorial Museum
The area around the Misuzu Kaneko Memorial Museum in the Senzaki district, known as the birthplace of children’s poet Misuzu Kaneko, is also a lesser-known fireworks-viewing spot. Although it is somewhat far from the venue, it is a good choice for those who prefer to enjoy the fireworks in a peaceful setting. The area also has many historic buildings, allowing you to combine a stroll with fireworks viewing.
4. Oji-yama Park
Oji-yama Park, situated on an elevated site a short distance from central Nagato City, is another spot offering distant views of the fireworks. From the park, you can watch the fireworks alongside the Nagato cityscape at night and enjoy a romantic atmosphere. It is recommended for anyone who wants to admire the fireworks in comfort, away from the bustle of the main venue.
Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is parking available?
A. Several parking areas will be available near the venue, including those at Yamaguchi Bank, Nagato City Hall, Nagato City Central Exchange Plaza, JA Yamaguchi Prefecture, and A Coop.
