Sales typically begin in May on the Tokushima City (徳島市) Tourism Association official website. The Aibahama Enbujo (藍場浜演舞場) is the largest and most popular, so seats fill up quickly. (Note: 1 USD ≈ 150 JPY)

Recommended Viewing Plan

Day 1 (Arrival Day): Experience the atmosphere by walking the streets From Tokushima Station (徳島駅), head to Shinmachigawa Park (新町川公園) and then to the Awa Odori Kaikan (阿波おどり会館). There are also food stalls, allowing you to soak in the festival mood.

Day 2: Main Viewing — Enjoy the Ren's exquisite skills from a paid seat

• 5:30 PM — Enter the dance venue, rent a vinyl cushion
• 6:00 PM — Section 1 begins
• 7:30 PM — Break (enjoy food stalls)
• 8:00 PM — Section 2
• 10:30 PM — End

Dance Yourself — "Niwaka Ren" Experience

The "Niwaka Ren (にわか連)" experience, where spectators can join the dance without prior registration, is held daily.

• Around 5:00 PM: Gather in front of Tokushima City Hall (徳島市役所)
• After a short lecture, dance through the city streets
• Costume rental (yukata, woven hats, etc.) is also available

The greatest charm of Awa Odori (阿波おどり) is not just "watching" but "participating by dancing." It would be a shame not to experience it at least once.

Awa Odori Kaikan (Year-round Experience Available)

At the Awa Odori Kaikan (阿波おどり会館), a 10-minute walk from Tokushima Station (徳島駅), you can watch Awa Odori (阿波おどり) performances on stage daily, even outside the festival period (paid admission). The museum on the 3rd and 4th floors also features exhibits on the history, instruments, and costumes of Awa Odori. It's worth visiting even if you're sightseeing in Tokushima (徳島) outside of the festival period.

• From JR Tokushima Station (徳島駅), it's a 5-15 minute walk to the city center and main dance venues.
• Approx. 3 hours by highway bus from Osaka (大阪) (no direct JR train service).
• Approx. 3 hours by JR via Okayama (岡山) (Seto-Ohashi Line + Limited Express Uzushio).
• If you have a Japan Rail Pass (JR Pass), you can use it for JR trains. For local travel, an IC card like Suica or Pasmo is convenient.

Flight Tokushima Awa Odori Airport (徳島阿波おどり空港) (30 minutes by bus to Tokushima City (徳島市) center). 1 hour 20 minutes from Haneda (羽田).

Highway Bus

• Many direct overnight/daytime buses from Kobe (神戸), Osaka (大阪), Kyoto (京都), and Nagoya (名古屋).
• Reservations are essential during the festival period.

Accommodation Situation

Due to the Obon holiday and the festival, hotels in Tokushima City (徳島市) are notoriously difficult to book 6 months to a year in advance.

Alternatives:

• Naruto City (鳴門市) (30 minutes by JR or bus) — Combine with sightseeing at the Naruto Whirlpools (鳴門の渦潮).
• Takamatsu City (高松市) (1 hour by JR Limited Express Uzushio) — Explore Kagawa (香川) tourism and udon noodle tours.
• Stay in Kobe (神戸) or Osaka (大阪) and take a highway bus for a day trip (realistic option).
