▶ Open on YouTube — like & subscribeBungo Takada usually hosts beautiful summer fireworks that attract many visitors. However, 2026 information for the “Bungo Takada City Fireworks Display,” usually held in early August on the Katsura River riverbank, has not been confirmed.
A major summer fireworks event in the city, the Nagasakibana Summer Festival Fireworks Display, has instead been confirmed for Sunday, July 19, 2026. This article provides details of that Nagasakibana event.
The Katsura River riverbank also sometimes hosts the “Katsura River Niagara Fireworks” as part of the Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine Autumn Grand Festival and Naked Festival, usually held in December. Please note that this is a different event from the usual summer fireworks display.
Introducing the Nagasakibana Summer Festival Fireworks Display 2026
A much-loved summer tradition in Bungo Takada, the Nagasakibana Summer Festival Fireworks Display takes place along the beautiful shoreline of the Nagasakibana resort peninsula. Approximately 600 fireworks bring vivid colour to the night sky and sea, creating memorable summer scenes. Before the display, visitors can also enjoy activities such as beach seine fishing, a prize draw and a performance by Bungo Misaki Taiko.

Venue and map
Nagasakibana Beach is in the Nagasakibana resort area at the tip of the Kunisaki Peninsula. It is an artificial beach covered in white sand, with shallow water where families with young children can enjoy swimming. Fields of rapeseed flowers and sunflowers and artworks by Japanese and international artists are scattered around the area, making it a place to enjoy nature and art as well as fireworks. The fireworks are launched from a breakwater only about 100 m from the shore, providing a powerful close-up experience.
Getting there
The following are the main ways to reach Nagasakibana Beach, the venue for the Nagasakibana Summer Festival Fireworks Display. Heavy crowds are expected on the day, so allow plenty of time.
By train and bus
The nearest station is Usa Station on the JR Nippo Main Line. From there, the venue is approximately 40 minutes away by car or 60 minutes by bus. Bus services are limited, so checking the timetable beforehand is recommended.
By car
- Expressway access: Approximately 60 minutes from Usa IC on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, or approximately 50 minutes from Oita Agricultural Culture Park IC.
- Parking: The beach car park is expected to fill up. Temporary parking is therefore planned at Kakaji Government Office, Kakaji Junior High School grounds and Kakaji Elementary School grounds, with free shuttle buses to the venue. Parking at Nagasakibana Beach Resort may cost ¥550 during busy periods.
- Traffic restrictions: Restrictions may apply around the venue. Check the Bungo Takada City or official event website for the latest information.
Check the last bus and train home
Visitors using public transport should check the final bus and train departures before travelling, allowing for crowds after the fireworks. In particular, confirm whether extra buses will operate and when the final service leaves, so you can plan your return journey.
Paid seating and tickets
At present, specific information about public sales of paid viewing seats for the 2026 Nagasakibana Summer Festival Fireworks Display has not been confirmed.
However, Nagasakibana Beach Resort, a glamping accommodation facility next to the beach, offers a special plan for overnight guests on the fireworks date. It includes “prime viewing and guaranteed parking,” allowing guests to watch the fireworks directly in front of their accommodation, from a distance of approximately 100 m, without worrying about the crowds.
A “BEACH CAFE” is also scheduled to open at the venue that day, serving Bungo Takada chilled soba, specialty coffee, draft beer and other refreshments.
Further announcements about paid seats or special viewing areas may follow. Check the official Bungo Takada City or Nagasakibana Beach Resort website for updates.
Lesser-known viewing spots
Nagasakibana Beach is the main venue, but there are also several possible places nearby from which to enjoy the display.
Within the accommodation area at Nagasakibana Beach Resort With the resort's accommodation plan, the area directly in front of your room becomes a prime fireworks viewing spot. A private space separated from the general viewing area by ropes lets you enjoy the dramatic bursts overhead at a relaxed pace. This is particularly recommended for visitors who want to avoid the crowds and watch from an excellent location.
Around Nagasakibana Resort Campground The campground beside Nagasakibana Beach may offer a comparatively quiet place to watch. Some locations within the campground overlook the whole beach, potentially combining the fireworks with the atmosphere of camping. However, check the distance from the launch point and the available sightlines in advance.
Open areas across the Nagasakibana headland Nagasakibana is a broad headland dotted with flower fields and artworks. Open spaces and elevated areas a little farther from the beach may provide an overview of the fireworks. They could be particularly appealing for photographs that include both the display and Nagasakibana's natural scenery. It is important to check beforehand that nothing blocks the view and that the location is safe for watching.
