Meet at Fukuoka Airport or Hakata Station. Evening among the riverside yatai stalls of Nakasu: one stool, one bowl of tonkotsu ramen, and the city does the rest.
Day 2
09:00Beppu's eight hells & first ryokan night· 480 min
Cross to the east coast. Walk the cobalt Umi Jigoku and its steaming brothers — viewing springs too hot to touch — then check into a Beppu ryokan and take the waters yourself.
Day 3
09:30Yufuin: craft lanes under Mt. Yufu· 420 min
A short hop inland to Yufuin — galleries and craft shops along the main lane, Lake Kinrin steaming at dawn and dusk, cafes in old farmhouses. Second onsen night, quieter this time.
Day 4
08:30Mt. Aso caldera drive to Kumamoto· 540 min
Drive the grasslands inside one of the world's largest calderas — horses grazing on the Kusasenri plain, volcano ridges on every horizon — then down to Kumamoto beneath its black castle.
Day 5
09:00Nagasaki: harbor, history and night views· 480 min
West to Nagasaki. The Peace Park and museum ask for an unhurried morning; Dejima and the old European quarter fill the afternoon; the ropeway up Mt. Inasa ends the day over one of Japan's three great night views.
