Where the private car wins

The exit crowd. This is the whole argument. After the opening ceremony on 19 September at Paloma Mizuho Stadium, after the closing ceremony on 4 October, after any evening final, trains run but are heavily crowded and last trains are around midnight. Taxi ranks near venues are where everyone else is also standing. A private car is at an agreed pickup point a short walk away, with your name on it, at the time you set.

What you are buying with a private car is not the seat. It is the fact that the decision has already been made. The driver knows the venue, has checked the current drop-off arrangements, and has a written itinerary. You are not explaining a hotel name in a queue or refreshing an app while the crowd thickens.

What you are not buying is a parking bay at the venue. Organisers ask spectators to use public transport, and private vehicles of any kind, taxis included, drop off near the perimeter. Expect a walk from any vehicle.

Are taxis hard to find in Nagoya normally?

Normally, no. The issue is timing: when a venue empties, demand spikes at one spot for a short period. That is when a pre-booked car matters and an ordinary evening does not.

Can a taxi wait for us during a session?

Not in any practical sense. You would pay the meter for hours and most drivers will not agree. A private car's waiting time is part of the booked block, which is the whole point of the hourly model.

Is a private car worth it for two people?
