If you are bringing parents or grandparents to the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, the hardest part of the day is rarely the ticket. It is the walk from the station to the gate, the wait at the entrance, and the crush on the train afterwards. A private car with a driver removes most of that, as long as you plan the day around walking limits rather than around the timetable.
This guide explains how a chauffeured car works for older travellers in Nagoya and the wider Aichi area between 19 September and 4 October 2026, and again for the Asian Para Games from 18 to 24 October. It covers drop-off points, how the hourly blocks are structured, where to build in rest, and what to expect on ceremony nights.
One honest note before anything else: organisers ask spectators to use public transport, and private vehicles cannot simply pull up at a venue gate. Drop-off points have to be arranged in advance and a specific bay is never guaranteed. Plan for a short walk even with a car.
Why a car changes the day for older spectators
Public transport in Nagoya is good, but it is built for people who can stand on a platform, climb stairs and walk several hundred metres between exits and venues. For a 75-year-old with a hip problem, the same journey is a different experience.
A private car with a driver gives you three things a train cannot:
- A seated, air-conditioned wait. Late September in Aichi is warm and humid, often 20 to 30 °C, and it is still typhoon season. Waiting in a car beats waiting on a pavement in the rain.
- A single door-to-door movement. Hotel to the agreed drop-off point, then drop-off point to hotel, with no stairs or platform changes in between.
- A place to leave things. Cushions, a folding stool, spare clothes and medication can stay in the vehicle instead of being carried all day.

Plan around walking distance, not driving distance
The car brings you close, not inside. The question to ask for every session is: how far is the agreed drop-off from the seats, and how long will the ID or bag check take?

How the hourly blocks work

For seniors, the practical choice is between two patterns:
- Two short blocks. Morning transfer to the venue, then release the car. Book a second block for the return. Cheaper, but you commit to a pick-up time before you know how the session runs.
- One long block with waiting. The car stays nearby through the session. More expensive, but if someone needs to leave early, the car is there within minutes and there is no waiting on a kerb.
For an opening ceremony evening, the second pattern is the one we recommend. The ceremony runs 18:00 to 20:00 on Saturday 19 September, every person in the party is ID-checked at entry, and queues at both entry and exit are long. Knowing the car is waiting takes a lot of stress out of the night.
A sample rhythm for a session day
This is one way to shape an athletics day at Mizuho Park for a couple in their seventies, with a younger relative doing the coordinating.
- 09:30 Driver meets you at the hotel entrance. Cushions, water and rain jackets go in the car.
- 10:15 Drop at the pre-arranged point near the stadium. Allow 15 to 20 minutes for the walk and the entrance check.
- Session. The car waits or is released, depending on the block you chose.
- Break. If the session has a long gap, the driver can take you to Atsuta Jingu shrine or to a quiet café rather than leaving you in the stands.
- Return. Meet at the same drop-off point unless the driver messages a change because of traffic control.
- Evening. Back at the hotel while the trains are still full.
Every road time during the Games is traffic-dependent, so leave buffer.
Rest stops and gentle sightseeing between sessions
Older travellers usually enjoy one good stop a day rather than three rushed ones. With a driver, these work well around Nagoya:
- Nagoya Castle and the Hommaru Palace, next to Meijo Park and IG Arena. Flat paths and benches.
- Atsuta Jingu, a wooded shrine that is calm even on busy days.
- Osu shopping arcade, covered, with plenty of places to sit and eat.
- Inuyama Castle, about 40 minutes by road, a national treasure with a river view. The castle interior has steep stairs, so the base and the town are the point for anyone with limited mobility.
Takayama and Shirakawa-go are 2.5 to 3 hours each way by road; for seniors that is an overnight, not a day trip.
Ceremony nights and late finals
Late-night trains after the ceremonies and finals will run, but crowds will be heavy and last trains are around midnight. For an older spectator this is the moment a private vehicle earns its cost.
Agree the exact meeting point with the driver before the session, write it down for everyone in the party, and keep phones charged. If a road is closed after the event, the driver will send a new point; that is normal, not a problem.
