Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) is not in Nagoya. It sits on an artificial island off Tokoname, roughly 40 km south of the city centre, and a group landing there for the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 has a real transfer to plan: 45 to 60 minutes by road, traffic-dependent, or 30 to 40 minutes on the Meitetsu Airport Line to Nagoya Station.
For an individual the train is excellent. For a group of 20 with suitcases, flags and a late arrival, a charter coach waiting at the terminal is usually the calmer choice, and this article explains why, what it costs to find out, and when the train still wins.
One thing to know upfront: Centrair is not on OlaChill's fixed-price airport transfer list, which covers Narita, Haneda, Kansai and New Chitose. A Centrair group transfer is quoted individually through the charter form.
Centrair in five facts
- Location: artificial island, Tokoname, Aichi. About 40 km south of downtown Nagoya.
- Rail: Meitetsu Airport Line. The μ-SKY express reaches Kanayama in about 30 minutes and Nagoya Station in about 30 to 40 minutes.
- Road: 45 to 60 minutes to central Nagoya, traffic-dependent, via toll expressways (ETC).
- Next door: Aichi Sky Expo (Aichi International Exhibition Center), the esports venue for 23 September to 2 October, is beside the terminal.
- Weather at arrival: late September is 20 to 30 °C and humid; typhoon season is not finished, and flights can be delayed.
Coach or Meitetsu Airport Line?
| Factor | Charter coach | Meitetsu Airport Line |
|---|---|---|
| Journey time to Nagoya Station area | 45 to 60 min (traffic) | 30 to 40 min |
| Door-to-door | Yes, to the hotel forecourt | No; hotel walk or taxi from the station |
| Luggage | Bay under the coach | Carried on board, racks limited |
| Group cohesion | One vehicle, one count | Platforms, ticket gates, possible split |
| Late arrival (after 22:00) | Waits for you, subject to driver hours agreed | Depends on last-train times; check |
| Cost | Quote; efficient above about 15 people | Per-person fares; cheapest for small groups |
| Delay handling | Driver tracks the flight if you give the number | No cost if you are late, just a later train |
Verdict: groups under 10 with light luggage staying near Nagoya Station or Kanayama should take the train. Groups of 15 or more, families with children, corporate parties, or anyone landing late should look at a coach.
Luggage maths nobody does until the kerb
Airlines allow one or two checked bags per person. A 30-person group therefore arrives with 30 to 60 suitcases plus hand luggage. On the train that is 30 people each dragging two bags through ticket gates and up to a hotel. On a coach it is a luggage bay.
But the bay has limits.
- A 44 to 53-seat full-size coach carries a group of 30 with two bags each comfortably.
- A 26 to 29-seat Coaster has a much smaller bay; 25 people with large cases may not fit.
- A 17 to 22-seat minibus is for hand luggage and a few suitcases.
Rule of thumb: tell us the number of large suitcases when you ask for a quote and we will size the vehicle, even if that means a bigger coach than the headcount suggests. Arriving to find the bags do not fit is the worst possible start.
Arrival timing: build in the gap you cannot control
The coach cannot meet you at the aircraft door. Between landing and the kerb are immigration, baggage claim and customs, and for an international arrival with 30 passports that takes as long as it takes.
Plan it this way:
- Give the operator the flight number, not just a time. The driver can check the actual landing time.
- Set the meeting time as landing plus a realistic buffer, and accept that waiting time may be charged if the group is much slower than planned. Ask what the quote assumes.
- Agree one meeting point inside or immediately outside the arrivals hall. One leader goes to find the driver; the group stays together with the bags.
- Have Japanese yen or a card ready for nothing in particular, because someone always needs a drink and a toilet before boarding.
For a late-night landing, say so at quote stage. Driver hours are planned in advance and a 23:30 arrival is a different job from a 14:00 one.
From Centrair to the venues directly
Some groups land and go straight to a session. Two realistic patterns:
- Esports at Aichi Sky Expo (23 September to 2 October). The venue is next to the terminal. A group could attend a session on arrival day and take the coach into Nagoya afterwards. Check the official schedule for session times; parking and drop-off for private coaches are arranged in advance and never guaranteed.
- Anything in Nagoya city. Add the 45 to 60 minute transfer to your arrival buffer. A group landing at 11:00 should not plan a 14:00 session; 17:00 is realistic.
Tokoname itself has a pottery footpath worth an hour if your hotel check-in is not until the afternoon.
Why there is no fixed price for Centrair
OlaChill's fixed-price Alphard transfers cover four airports: Narita, Haneda, Kansai and New Chitose. Centrair is not one of them. Group transfers from Centrair are quoted through the charter form, based on vehicle class, hours, distance, tolls and any waiting time. The reply comes within 24 hours.
Do not compare a quoted coach price to a published fixed Alphard price for another airport; they are different vehicles for different distances.
Departure day in reverse
Everything above applies backwards on the way home, with one added pressure: after the closing ceremony on 4 October, a large share of visitors leave Aichi on the same day or two, and coaches are in demand for airport runs. Book the departure transfer at the same time as the arrival one.
Leave the hotel at flight time minus the airline check-in window, minus 60 minutes of road, minus a 30-minute buffer. Count bags at the hotel door, not at the terminal.
How to book with OlaChill
Send your flight number, arrival date, headcount, suitcase count and hotel through the charter bus quote form and you will receive a quote within 24 hours; mention the return flight too so both runs are planned together. If part of your party arrives via Tokyo instead, the fixed-price airport transfer page covers Narita and Haneda, and a Japan travel eSIM activated before landing means the leader can reach the driver from the arrivals hall.
FAQ
Is Centrair on the fixed-price airport transfer list?
No. That list covers Narita, Haneda, Kansai and New Chitose. Centrair transfers, for one Alphard or a full coach, go through the charter quote form.
How long is Centrair to Nagoya by coach?
About 45 to 60 minutes to central Nagoya, traffic-dependent, using toll expressways. The Meitetsu μ-SKY express to Nagoya Station takes 30 to 40 minutes if you prefer rail.
Will the coach wait if our flight is late?
Give the operator the flight number so the driver can track it. Reasonable delays are normal; long delays or slow immigration may incur waiting charges, so ask what the quote assumes.
Can a 29-seat Coaster take 25 people with suitcases?
Often not. The Coaster's bay is small. Tell us the number of large cases and we will recommend the vehicle, which may be a full-size coach.
Can we go straight from the airport to an esports session?
Aichi Sky Expo is next to the terminal, so yes in principle. Check the official schedule for session times and allow for immigration, baggage and the walk from the agreed drop-off point.
