Todoroki Ravine: An Oasis Just a Short Trip from Central Tokyo
Todoroki Ravine (Todoroki Keikoku) in Setagaya, Tokyo, is a natural ravine stretching approximately 1km. It was formed over many years as the Yazawa River eroded the southern edge of the Musashino Plateau. A diverse range of trees, including zelkova, Japanese evergreen oak, and konara oak, grows thickly along the valley, creating beautiful scenery throughout the seasons. Even in summer, the ravine is filled with refreshingly cool air, and it is popular as an “urban oasis” where visitors can hear the murmur of the river and birdsong.
The park was temporarily closed in some areas due to projects involving the preservation and pruning of dangerous trees, but after safety improvement work, all sections of the riverside walking trail reopened on March 24, 2026. Visitors can now walk the beautiful trail from end to end and enjoy the ravine in its original lush state.

Easy by Train! Access and Essential Information for Todoroki Ravine
One of Todoroki Ravine’s biggest attractions is how easy it is to reach from central Tokyo. From Todoroki Station on the Tokyu Oimachi Line, the nearest station, it takes approximately 3〜5 minutes on foot to reach the entrance to the ravine. After walking just a few minutes from the lively streets around the station, you will find yourself surrounded by deep green scenery.
Here are the main routes from major stations. ・From Jiyugaoka Station: Approximately 5 minutes on the Tokyu Oimachi Line (local train), getting off at Todoroki Station. ・From Shibuya Station: Approximately 10 minutes on the Tokyu Toyoko Line to Jiyugaoka Station, then transfer to the Tokyu Oimachi Line for approximately 5 minutes. ・From Futako-Tamagawa Station: Approximately 3 minutes on the Tokyu Oimachi Line.
Exit Todoroki Station via the south exit and head south, where you will soon see the bright red Golf Bridge over the Yazawa River. Descend the stairs beside the bridge to enter the walking trail through the ravine.

As you descend the stairs beneath Golf Bridge, the surroundings quickly transform into a quiet space enveloped by trees. In addition to natural beauty, the walking trail along the Yazawa River is dotted with places where visitors can experience the area’s history and culture.
Golf Bridge
This striking red bridge marks the starting point of the walk. The name “Golf Bridge” comes from the fact that a vast golf course covering approximately 8 hectares once stood in the area around the former Shimonomoge and Todoroki villages in the early Showa period. A horizontal cave tomb has been preserved in the cliff face along the walking trail. It is believed to have been built between the end of the Kofun period and the Nara period. Because human remains and grave goods excavated during archaeological surveys were found to be in excellent condition, the site has been designated a historic site by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.Fudo Falls
This waterfall is said to have been fed by a continuously flowing spring for more than 800 years. It is believed that the name “Todoroki” originated from the sound of the waterfall once “thundering” throughout the surrounding area. The café offers outdoor chairs set on red felt mats as well as indoor tatami seating, along with a seasonal menu.
