Iizuka Summer Fireworks Festival 2026: A Traditional and Spectacular Celebration Lighting Up the Chikuhō Night Sky
Held for the first time in Taishō 11 (1922), the Iizuka Summer Fireworks Festival has a history spanning more than 100 years. It has become a beloved summer tradition in Iizuka, attracting approximately 100,000 visitors every year. Starting in 2025, the festival date was moved to avoid the intense summer heat, and in 2026 it will be held on September 25 (Friday). Approximately 7,000 fireworks will light up the night sky over Ongagawa Nak之島. In particular, the large-scale set-piece displays, including the Niagara Falls, are said to be among the largest of their kind in western Japan. Numerous food stalls line the area around the venue, making this one of the Chikuhō region’s biggest and liveliest events.

Access
Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation to reach the Iizuka Summer Fireworks Festival venue.
- By train The venue is approximately a 5–10-minute walk from Shin-Iizuka Station on the JR Chikuhō Main Line.
- By bus The Iizuka Bus Terminal is extremely convenient, just approximately 1 minute on foot from the venue.
Traffic Restrictions and Parking Temporary traffic restrictions will be introduced around the venue from around 18:00 on the day of the festival, and some areas will be closed to vehicles. Approximately 4,000 free and paid parking spaces will be available around the venue, but severe congestion is expected as in previous years, so public transportation is recommended. Be sure to check the time of the last train home in advance and plan to leave plenty of time.
Reserved Seating and Tickets
No paid general-admission viewing seats are scheduled to be sold for the 2026 Iizuka Summer Fireworks Festival. This is essentially an event where the fireworks can be enjoyed free of charge from all viewing areas. Anyone can freely watch the fireworks from the riverbank around the venue and other nearby viewing spots.
Hidden Viewing Spots
For those who want to enjoy the fireworks away from the crowds, here are several recommended lesser-known viewing spots.
- Kaho TERRAS (KAHO TERRAS) Lawn Area Located approximately 2km from the venue, the multipurpose farmers’ market Kaho TERRAS has previously opened its entire grounds to the public on the day of the fireworks festival. You can spread out a leisure sheet on the lawn and enjoy the fireworks comfortably, even with small children. An indoor food court and traditional festival-style events may also be held at the same time, making this a pleasant place to spend the evening.
- Aeon Honami Shopping Center Parking Lot Although it is somewhat far from the venue, this is a convenient spot where you can enjoy the fireworks while also shopping or using the restrooms. The fireworks are reportedly especially easy to see from the rooftop or parking areas on upper floors, and another advantage is that you can take shelter indoors in case of rain. However, you should contact the facility in advance to confirm whether the parking lot will be open on the day of the festival.
- Katsumori Park This spacious park is located east of the venue and offers a relaxing place to enjoy the fireworks amid nature. Restrooms are available in the park, making it a good choice for families who want to avoid the crowds and relax on a leisure sheet. However, the impact of the set-piece fireworks may be somewhat less impressive than at the main venue.
- Riverbank on the opposite side of the Ongagawa River (some distance from the venue) The riverbanks a little upstream or downstream from Nak之島, the launch site, are also good options. With few obstructions to your view, you can see the aerial fireworks clearly. The farther you move from the venue, the fewer people there tend to be, while you can still enjoy the sound and excitement of the fireworks. However, please refrain from sitting on the embankment road or spreading out sheets to watch the show.

However, as this is a large-scale event that attracts approximately 100,000 visitors every year, the restrooms are expected to be extremely crowded.
