A complete guide to the 2026 Watari Furusato Summer Festival Fireworks
Held every summer in Watari, Miyagi Prefecture, the Watari Furusato Summer Festival Fireworks is a seasonal highlight, with around 5,000 fireworks lighting up the night sky. Around Torinoumi Park, the celebrations begin during the day with festival stalls, stage events, traditional Shigezane-bayashi music and a parade of festival floats. In the evening, floating lanterns create an atmospheric spectacle on the water. The fireworks finale is notable for the short distance between the launch and viewing areas—just 200 metres—allowing spectators to enjoy the impact of fireworks bursting directly in front of them.

Venue and map
The venue is the area around Torinoumi Park in Watari, Miyagi Prefecture. The address is 48-1 Chikko-dori, Arahama, Watari-machi, Watari-gun, 989-2311. The park was developed in the Arahama district, which suffered severe damage from the tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake, and is a symbol of the area's recovery. Fireworks are launched against a coastal backdrop within this spacious setting.
Getting there
The Torinoumi Park area can be reached by public transport, although arriving by car is convenient.
By train and bus
The nearest station is Watari Station on the JR Joban Line. From the station, a shared local transport service takes approximately 10 minutes to the Watari Onsen Torinoumi-mae stop, followed by a 2-minute walk to the venue. A taxi from JR Watari Station also takes around 10 minutes. However, some information describes the venue as having no nearby station and advises using other transport, so bear this differing guidance in mind.
Buses and taxis towards Watari Station are expected to be busy after the fireworks. Plan your return journey with plenty of time to catch the last train.
By car
The venue area is approximately 5 minutes from Torinoumi Smart Interchange on the Joban Expressway, or around 15 minutes from Watari Interchange on the Sendai-Tobu Road.
Parking: Around 3,500 free parking spaces are expected to be available near the venue. Large crowds attend each year, however, so congestion is likely. Please share vehicles where possible. Paid viewing-seat tickets include designated parking.

Quieter viewing spots
The following places are suggested for visitors hoping to avoid the main crowds.
The embankment near Watari Ohashi Bridge This elevated embankment is across the Abukuma River, a little way from the venue. With relatively few tall buildings, it offers the possibility of seeing large fireworks clearly across the river. It is suggested for a calmer viewing experience.
Naya Coast This stretch of coast is approximately 1 kilometre north of the venue. You can watch the fireworks while feeling the sea breeze, and the small number of nearby buildings gives the area an open outlook. There are also scattered parking spaces along the farm roads.
The seawall near Torinoumi Fureai Market Relatively close to the venue and with few obstructions, this is described as a comfortable place to watch the display. It is known as a quieter spot also visited by local students. Bring a picnic sheet for a relaxed evening.
The area near Obatahama Kita Disaster Prevention Park This disaster-prevention park lies on the opposite side of Torinoumi from Torinoumi Park. The water between the park and the display provides an open view, allowing larger fireworks to be seen from a distance.
Access to these suggested spots may vary with crowd conditions and traffic restrictions on the day. Check their locations on a map beforehand and allow extra travel time.
