Yokohama Night Helicopter Cruise: A Detour From Tokyo

Minato Mirai and the waterfront

When people picture Yokohama at night they usually picture the illuminated bay area around the Minato Mirai district. That is the city's signature view and it is what a night cruise over Yokohama is built around.

Two cautions, because we do not oversell. First, routes flex with air traffic and wind, so read the product page for the route description that applies to your date rather than assuming a fixed circuit. Second, 40 minutes at night means the view is lights and water, not detail. If you want to identify individual buildings, a daytime flight anywhere is a better tool. If you want the feeling of the harbour lit up beneath you for a long stretch, this is it.

Timing after dark

The Games run 19 September to 4 October and the Asian Para Games 18 to 24 October. Across those weeks sunset moves steadily earlier, and this changes how a night flight looks.

• The time on the product page is the meeting time. The aircraft departs roughly 30 minutes later.
• An early meeting slot in late September can produce a dusk flight with colour still in the sky. The same slot in late October is likely to be fully dark.
• If you want the harbour fully lit for all 40 minutes, take the later slot for your date.
• Check the sunset time for Yokohama on your date before choosing. We do not print sunset times because they change every day.

Allow about an hour at the heliport in total, plus travel. It is a 40-minute flight, but the evening is longer than that.

Getting there from Nagoya

Nagoya to Tokyo by Nozomi is about 1 hour 40 minutes. Yokohama is south of Tokyo and easily reached from there; the product page gives the meeting point. If you would like a car with a driver from your Tokyo or Yokohama hotel to the meeting point and back, ask when booking. That is a separate chauffeur booking priced by the hour and is not included in the flight price.

Do not try to combine this with the closing ceremony on 4 October in the same evening. The ceremony finishes late, trains out of Nagoya are crowded, last trains run around midnight, and Yokohama is a Shinkansen ride plus an onward journey away. Fly on 5 or 6 October instead.

Making it a celebration

Forty minutes at night over a harbour is a natural celebration flight, whether for a medal, an anniversary or a proposal. Book the whole aircraft as a private charter (¥688,000, or ¥725,800 on weekends and holidays) and the cabin is private to your group of up to 3, so nobody else is aboard except the pilot. If you have a request beyond the flight itself, for example flowers waiting at the heliport or a photographer on the ground, write it in the booking form. FAQ

Is Yokohama far from Tokyo?

No, it is just to the south. From Nagoya the practical route is the Shinkansen to Tokyo, about 1 hour 40 minutes, then a short onward journey. The meeting point is given on the product page.

Why is it more expensive than the Tokyo night flights?

Because it is longer. At 40 minutes it is 15 to 18 minutes longer than the two 3-seat Tokyo night flights, and per minute of flying it is actually a little cheaper.

Can four of us fly together?

Not in this cabin, which seats 3. The only 5-seat night option is the Tokyo Sunset and Night flight at ¥485,100 per person (¥2,183,000 for the whole aircraft as a private charter), from Shin-Kiba. Groups of four can also book two Yokohama flights back to back; ask us to check the schedule.

What if the weather is bad on the night?

A weather cancellation by the operator means a full refund or a free date change. Separately, you can move the date yourself at no cost up to 4 days before the flight, which is useful if the forecast turns early.

Do you fly from Nagoya during the Games?

No. Our helicopter flights operate from Tokyo Heliport at Shin-Kiba, Funabashi Heliport on the Chiba side of Tokyo Bay, the Mt Fuji region and Yokohama only. Plan this as an add-on before or after your Games days.
