Ten minutes in the air from Tokyo Heliport in Shin-Kiba, five minutes by car from Shin-Kiba station. The helicopter lifts off over the canals of Koto-ku, turns out across Tokyo Bay and follows the waterfront back to the same pad. You sit three to a cabin with the city laid flat beneath you — container cranes, reclaimed islands, the bay traffic. The tower reads very differently from the air than from its observation deck — you see how far it stands above everything around it, with Asakusa, the old low-rise wards and the river bends spread out below. Three seats, one private cabin, and enough time for the photographs the 10-minute flight does not give you.

Twenty-two minutes after dark, departing from Funabashi Heliport on the Chiba side of Tokyo Bay. The route runs inland along the Arakawa river towards a lit Tokyo Skytree, then back down the coast with the bay dark on one side and the city bright on the other. Departure times shift with sunset through the year, so the same booking is an early-evening flight in December and a much later one in June.

It works out over Shinjuku's tower cluster and Shibuya, comes back through Asakusa and the Sumida, and passes both Tokyo Tower and Skytree before the bay approach. Thirty minutes is what covering that ground takes without hurrying. On genuinely clear days Mt. Fuji shows on the western horizon, but that is weather, not a promise.

Eighteen minutes takes you up along the Edogawa river and out toward the lit grid of the north-east suburbs, then straight back to Misato. If you are staying in Saitama or north Tokyo it is the closest pad of anything we fly — but the flight ends before you have properly settled into the seat, so book it as a first taste rather than the main event of the evening.

Frequently asked questions

Should I fly by day or at night?
By day you read the shape of the city, the bay and — on a clear day — Mt. Fuji to the west. At night the city becomes light: the Skytree and Tokyo Tower change colour and the expressways turn into streaks. First-time flyers usually pick daytime; anniversaries and proposals usually pick night.
What are the seat and weight limits?
Each seat takes up to 120 kg; total passenger weight is capped at 220 kg on a three-seat helicopter and 330 kg on a five-seat one. The pilot balances the aircraft with exactly these numbers, so we ask for every passenger's real weight at booking. A few kilos understated and the flight is cancelled at the pad.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The weather decides the flight, and the decision reaches your inbox at a fixed hour: departures between 09:00 and 12:00 are settled by 18:00 the evening before; from 12:30 by 10:00 on the day; from 16:30 by 15:00 on the day. If weather cancels the flight you choose a full refund or a free move to another date.
