Timing after dark in late September and October

Night flights are scheduled after sunset, and sunset gets earlier week by week through the Games period. The Games run 19 September to 4 October; the Asian Para Games run 18 to 24 October, later still.

Practical consequences:

• Check the sunset time for your specific date, then look at the meeting times on the product page. The time shown is the meeting time; the flight departs roughly 30 minutes later, so a meeting time close to sunset can mean a dusk flight rather than full night.
• If you want the city fully lit, pick the later meeting slot for your date.
• If you want the sky still showing colour, the earlier slot in late September gives you a better chance than the same slot in late October.

We do not publish sunset times because they change daily. A quick check for Tokyo on your date, and a look at the available meeting times, is all it takes.

Who fits in the cabin

Both flights carry up to 3 passengers with a 120 kg per-seat limit and a 220 kg cabin total. That is enough for most groups of two and many groups of three, but three adults averaging 75 kg are already over the cabin limit.

Give honest weights when booking. The operator allocates seats by weight for balance, and a group that does not fit finds out at the weigh-in, which is the worst moment to find out.

The 5-seat alternative for groups

If your party is four or five, neither of these flights works as a single cabin. The one 5-seat option over Tokyo is the 30-minute Tokyo Sunset and Night flight at ¥485,100 per person; the whole five-seat aircraft as a private charter is ¥2,183,000. Note that this one departs from Tokyo Heliport at Shin-Kiba, not Funabashi. It starts around sunset and finishes in the dark, which for a supporters' group who want to fly together is often the better fit anyway.

For groups of six or more, the practical pattern is consecutive 3-seat cabins on the same evening. Say so in the booking and we will check what the schedule allows.

Getting to Funabashi Heliport from Nagoya

The Nozomi Shinkansen covers Nagoya to Tokyo in about 1 hour 40 minutes. Funabashi Heliport is on the Chiba side of Tokyo Bay, outside central Tokyo, so allow time to cross from Tokyo Station, and aim to arrive at the heliport before the meeting time rather than at it.

A realistic closing-day plan: closing ceremony on 4 October at the main stadium in Nagoya, Shinkansen the next morning or early afternoon, hotel check-in, then the night flight as the last thing you do in Japan. Do not attempt closing ceremony and night flight on the same evening; the ceremony ends late, trains are crowded and last trains are around midnight.

Autumn in Japan still has typhoon risk. If the flight matters, keep a spare evening in Tokyo so a cancelled night can become a flown one.

FAQ

Which is better for photos, 22 or 25 minutes?

The 25-minute flight, simply because there is more time in the air. Turn off flash, press the lens close to the window to cut reflections, and shoot a lot. Ask the ground crew about window positions at the briefing.

Can we fly on the evening of the closing ceremony?

We do not recommend it. The ceremony is in Nagoya on 4 October, the Shinkansen to Tokyo is about 1 hour 40 minutes, and you would still need to cross to Funabashi Heliport on the Chiba side of the bay. Fly the next evening instead.

Is the price per person?

Yes. The figures above are per person, one seat on a shared three-seat flight: from ¥151,200 for the Skytree Night flight or ¥172,200 for the Twin Towers Night flight (¥165,200 and ¥184,800 on weekends and holidays). If you want the whole aircraft to yourselves, book it as a private charter: ¥408,300–¥446,100 or ¥465,000–¥499,000.

What if it is cloudy but not raining?

The decision to fly is the operator's and is based on safety, not on how pretty the view will be. A flight that operates in haze is a flown flight. A flight cancelled for weather is refunded in full or moved for free.

Are there night flights outside Tokyo?

Yes. The Yokohama Night Cruise is 40 minutes from ¥254,800 per person (¥268,800 on weekends and holidays), and the Saitama Misato Night Cruise is 18 minutes from ¥156,800 per person (¥169,400 on weekends and holidays); both are three-seat aircraft, and the whole aircraft as a private charter is ¥688,000–¥725,800 and ¥423,400–¥457,400 respectively.
