The nearest station is JR Gono Line “Noshiro Station,” from which the venue is approximately 12 to 15 minutes away on foot.

By Car

The venue is approximately 15 minutes by car from either the Noshiro-Minami IC or Noshiro-Higashi IC on the Akita Expressway.

6 free temporary parking areas are officially designated: Noshiro Seika Wholesale Market, Noshiro Municipal Gymnasium, the Citizens’ Temporary Parking Lot, Noshiro City Culture Hall, Yamamoto Regional Development Bureau, and Marumizu Akita Chuo Suisan. They are located approximately 10 to 20 minutes on foot from the festival headquarters. However, severe congestion is expected on the day, so public transportation is recommended.

Detour Routes During Busy Periods and the Last Train Home

During the festival, traffic restrictions will be imposed on part of National Route 101 (from the Shonancho Intersection to the Omachi Intersection), while the section between Toomachi Intersection and the City Hall Intersection will be completely closed to traffic from 17:00 to 22:00. Drivers will need to take a detour via Hatamachi Odori (National Route 205).

If you are using public transportation, services may end later than usual, so we recommend checking the time of the last train home in advance and allowing plenty of time in your plans.

For the 2026 Noshiro Tanabata “Castle of the Sky,” the Noshiro Tourism Association is selling reserved viewing seats.

• Premium seats: 10,000 yen per person (tax included)
  • Includes a chair seat, a dinner featuring Akita’s famous kiritanpo (served at an event hall in the city; drinks charged separately), and a commemorative gift.
  • Premium seats for August 2 (Sunday) and August 3 (Monday) are sold out.
• Dinner plan: 4,000 yen per person (tax included)
  • Includes dinner with kiritanpo hot pot only, served from 17:00 at the event hall “Plaza Miyako” near the viewing area.
  • Available only on August 3 (Monday).
• Accommodation arrangements: 8,900 yen〜 per person for single occupancy (tax included)
  • Arrangements for 1 night at a business hotel in the city, including breakfast.
  • Requests for non-smoking or smoking rooms cannot be accommodated.
  • Transportation costs between the viewing area and the hotel are not included.

The reserved viewing seats are set up in front of Aeon Noshiro and offer a direct view of the opening ceremony and other events. If seats are still available, same-day purchases can be made at the venue, but advance reservations are recommended due to their popularity. Hidden Viewing Spots

Most of the Noshiro Tanabata “Castle of the Sky” procession route is a free viewing area, and visitors can watch from the sidewalks. Since the crowds are relatively light, finding a place to stand is generally not too difficult, but here are a few hidden spots for a more comfortable experience.

• Around Aeon Noshiro: Aeon Noshiro faces the procession route, and the south side is considered particularly easy to view from. It is also convenient for taking a break or shopping, and restrooms are available.
• Around Sumiyoshi Intersection: The area around Sumiyoshi Intersection, located midway along the procession route, is often recommended as one of the best viewing points. It should offer a good overall view of the lanterns as they parade through the streets.
• Sidewalks between Noshiro City Hall Intersection and Toomachi Intersection: Since the entire procession route is a free viewing area, it is best to arrive early, before traffic restrictions begin, and secure a good spot along the sidewalk. Areas slightly away from the lanterns’ starting and finishing points may offer a more relaxed viewing experience.
• Noshiro Port waterfront: The Noshiro Port waterfront is often mentioned as a hidden spot for “Noshiro Fireworks.” If you choose an area with an unobstructed view of the sky, you may be able to enjoy the magical sight of the lantern light reflected on the water. However, be sure to check for any access restrictions and available parking on the day.
