About this experience
A wide loop from east Tokyo through the old and the new city: Senso-ji, Ueno Park and Akihabara, the moats of the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station, then across the Sumida River to the sumo halls of Ryogoku and back under Tokyo Skytree. One hundred minutes, for drivers who want to see the whole city in one go.
Most driving routes stay in one district. This one crosses Tokyo from the eastern wards into the centre and back, which is why it lists eight sights: it is closer to a city tour than a neighbourhood loop.
From Katsushika in east Tokyo the route passes Senso-ji, circles Ueno Park and goes through Akihabara, then follows the moats of the Imperial Palace and passes Tokyo Station. It crosses the Sumida River to Ryogoku, home of the sumo halls, and finishes under Tokyo Skytree. The drive lasts one hundred minutes, with three starts a day.
Choose it for the overview: temples, palace moats, the main station and the sumo district on one continuous route.
Because the route touches so many districts, it works well as a first-day overview: drive it, then go back on foot to the place you liked most, whether that is Asakusa, Ueno, the palace gardens or the sumo museum at Ryogoku.
