Lake Kawaguchi and Kachi Kachi Mountain Ropeway offer some of Japan's most celebrated views of Mount Fuji. Positioned at 830 meters elevation and spanning 5.7 square kilometers, Lake Kawaguchi's jagged coastline creates countless perfect spots for photography. The lake's mirror-like surface captures stunning reflections of Mount Fuji on clear days. The Kachi Kachi Mountain Ropeway ascends to 1,075 meters, providing unobstructed panoramic views across both the lake and Mount Fuji. Visibility extends to the Southern Alps on cloudless days. Note that the ropeway closes December 8-19, 2025 for maintenance. During this window, tours substitute a ride aboard the Tenshō-maru Sengoku Bushō Funabune, a modern recreation of an atakebune warship from the Kai Takeda clan's naval forces. The vessel's distinctive red hull and Takeda-bishi diamond motifs evoke the samurai era's grandeur. Lake Kawaguchi, the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes by shoreline length, transforms seasonally. Spring brings cherry blossoms, summer showcases lavender at Oishi Park alongside Mount Fuji's backdrop, and autumn turns the park's kochia into crimson mounds. Visitors also experience traditional matcha preparation by the water. The Lawson convenience store positioned along the lakeshore has become a photography hotspot. Photographers typically position tripods across the street in portrait mode and wait for foot traffic to clear before shooting. Always exercise caution when crossing—safety takes priority. Nearby Oshino Hakkai comprises eight crystalline springs fed by Mount Fuji's snowmelt filtered through underground rock. This National Natural Monument presents the mountain's reflection among serene pond waters, drawing photographers seeking its ethereal landscape.
