A slower day on the Asagiri plateau, on the Shizuoka side of Mt Fuji where the mountain stands closest and least crowded. Makaino Farm is a working dairy farm turned open park — sheep and goats you can feed, cows being milked, ice cream made on site, and wide grass fields with Fuji filling the skyline behind them. It is the easiest tour on our autumn list for families with small children or grandparents: almost everything is flat, and there is no long walk to reach the view.

Admission included. Feed the sheep and goats, watch the milking, eat ice cream made on the farm, and sit on the grass with Mt Fuji filling the skyline. Paid activities are bookable inside.
15:00Shiraito Falls· 50 min
A 150-metre-wide curtain of water seeping straight out of the lava cliff — this is Fuji's snowmelt coming back to the surface. A designated Place of Scenic Beauty.
