Two days inside the Japanese Alps, at the season they look their best. Kamikochi is a highland valley closed to private cars, so the only way in is the shuttle over Hirayu Pass — and what waits at the end is the Azusa River running clear turquoise under Kappa Bridge, with the Hotaka range standing straight above it. You walk the valley floor on flat riverside paths, not a climb. The night is spent in Hakuba, and day two takes in the wide-open Happo highlands before the run back to Tokyo.

08:00Meet & depart from Tokyo Station — the Japanese flag 🇯🇵 by the red brick building (Marunouchi side)
Meeting point: the Japanese flag 🇯🇵 in front of Tokyo Station's red brick building (Marunouchi side). Please arrive 30 minutes before departure — the bus leaves right on time.
12:30Taisho Pond — first view of the valley· 40 min
The shuttle stops here first. Bleached tree trunks stand in still water with Mt Yake smoking gently behind — the picture that made Kamikochi famous.
13:30Kappa Bridge & the Azusa riverside path· 120 min
The wooden suspension bridge at the heart of Kamikochi, with the Hotaka peaks filling the sky upstream. Flat riverside walking, no climbing.
17:30Check in at Hakuba
Arrive in Hakuba village for the night. Dinner is free time — the village has ramen, izakaya and soba within walking distance.
Day 2
09:00Happo highlands — alpine morning· 120 min
Wide-open plateau looking across to the Shirouma range. The ropeway up is optional and paid on site.
19:30Back at Tokyo Station
Drop-off at the same Marunouchi meeting point. Arrival time depends on expressway traffic.
