Overview

Yama-no-Chaya is the only inn at the end of a suspension bridge across the Hayakawa ravine at Tonosawa, a short ride above Hakone-Yumoto. Its own well, 300 metres deep, supplies four baths, including a bamboo-grove bathhouse and a valley-side bath that can be taken privately, plus the private tubs in eleven of the fifteen rooms. Rooms are tatami-based, several with moon-viewing decks or beds. Kaiseki dinners change monthly using Sagami Bay seafood and Kanto wagyu, with a children's menu available; breakfast starts with house-made tofu. There is a bar lounge, and tattoos are accepted in the baths.
