Fukuzumiro

Fukuzumiro opened in 1890 in Tonosawa, one of the old Seven Springs of Hakone, a short ride from Hakone-Yumoto. The wooden three-storey building is a registered tangible cultural property, and each of its 17 rooms has its own joinery, scrolls and history of writers who stayed, including Kawabata Yasunari. Baths use the alkaline Yumoto No. 37 source: the round Omaru bath carved from pine trunks, a rock bath and several family baths taken in turn. Kaiseki dinners based on fish from nearby waters are served in the room. Rooms share toilets and baths, and there is no elevator.
