Overview

Osenkaku is the only inn at Takaragawa Onsen, at the top of the Tone River system north of Minakami. Its four open-air baths sit along the river below the building, built from large boulders and filled from four wells without added water, heating or circulation; three are mixed, with bathing wear provided for women, and one is women-only. Rooms are in a 1955 cypress-wood main building, a 1936 wooden annex and a concrete east wing. Dinner features mountain dishes such as river fish and mushrooms, served in a restaurant or bamboo-screened dining booths; breakfast is a buffet. Free shuttles run from Jomo-Kogen and Minakami stations.

Location and access

Free inn shuttle, reservation required: from Jomo-Kogen Station (arrivals 12:43 / 14:43) and Minakami Station (14:15); return departs the inn 9:30 (9:15 Dec-Mar). Otherwise local bus via Minakami Station to Takaragawa Iriguchi. About 18 km / 30 min from Minakami IC; in winter a pickup runs from Michi-no-Eki Minakami.
