Ryokan Sanga

Ryokan Sanga lies in woodland on the Tanohara River about five minutes by car past the main Kurokawa Onsen street. In the inn's own telling, its founder dug the first well, the brown sulfur 'Yakushi no Yu', and the inn later added a second chloride-bicarbonate-sulfate source; both flow into seven baths without recirculation, from separate men's and women's open-air baths to three private baths for staying guests. Rooms range from 8-tatami main-building rooms to units with cut-stone or open-air baths and two detached cottages. Dinner is a kaiseki of Aso and Oguni produce such as akaushi beef and yamame trout, and a macrobiotic menu can be ordered in advance.
