Overview
KAI Kinugawa sits on a rise beside the Kinugawa river, about fifteen minutes on foot from Tobu Kinugawa-Onsen Station, and a slope car carries guests from the car park to the lobby. Buildings wrap around a courtyard of trees, and the local-style rooms use Mashiko ware, Kurobane indigo dye and Oya stone. The public baths have a large glass wall onto the seasons and a stone outdoor bath with mild alkaline water. Some Japanese rooms add an open-air onsen bath on a stone terrace. Dinner is kaiseki served on Mashiko pottery, with a duck hot pot as the signature dish; a meeting room is available.
