Overview
KAI Beppu stands on the Kitahama seafront, about ten minutes on foot from JR Beppu Station, and every guest room faces the sea. The building is laid out like a small onsen street, with a bay-view footbath, a hand bath and an evening square where staff play a 'jug band' on buckets and bath water. The public baths use Beppu Onsen's salty, bicarbonate water; the indoor bath is walled with Usuki-ware tiles and the outdoor bath is made of local stone. Some room types include a private open-air bath facing Beppu Bay. Dinner is a kaiseki course built around fish from the Bungo Channel and local kabosu citrus.
