Overview

HOSHINOYA Kyoto lies on the Oi River in the Arashiyama gorge, in an area once favoured by Heian nobles for villas. Arrival is by the inn's private boat from a boat waiting area in Arashiyama, about six minutes from Hankyu Arashiyama Station; a car is used when river conditions stop the boats. There are 25 rooms for one to three guests, each looking onto the river and the seasonal hillsides. The official site lists two restaurants and a spa, and stays are sold room-only with dinner and breakfast booked separately. Parking is not on site; guests park in Arashiyama and can leave large bags at the boat pier.

Guests check in at the boat waiting area near Arashiyama (about 6 min walk from Hankyu Arashiyama, 15 min from JR Saga-Arashiyama) and ride the inn's private boat upriver; boats 14:30-17:45, car transfer if boats are suspended. No on-site parking; use Arashiyama public car parks.
