Overview

Asaba traces its origin to 1484, when an Asaba ancestor opened a temple lodging in front of Shuzenji, and the family still runs it. Its centrepiece is the Gekkeiden Noh stage, moved from Tokyo in the late Meiji era, which stands over a pond and hosts seasonal Noh, Kyogen and Shinnai performances. Rooms range from 52 to 220 square metres; each has its own kakenagashi onsen bath, and the detached Villa Tenko has an open-air one. Dinner and breakfast are served in the room by a dedicated server, using produce from Suruga Bay, the Kano River and the Amagi foothills.
