Overview

Araya Totoan stands at the heart of Yamashiro Onsen on the spring said to be the town's original source; its founder was appointed keeper of the baths by the Daishoji domain in the 17th century. The inn draws about 100,000 litres a day, used kakenagashi in three bathhouses, including a dim mist bath, and in 11 of its 17 rooms, which have open-air or semi-open-air baths. Rosanjin stayed here in 1915, and his early ceramics and calligraphy are shown in a tea-room gallery. Kaga seafood and vegetables are served on Kutani and Yamanaka ware in private dining rooms.
