Miyama Thatched Village ranks among Japan's three most significant surviving thatched-roof communities, alongside Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture and Ouchi-juku in Fukushima Prefecture. The Kayabukinosato Kitamura area contains roughly 50 structures, of which approximately 40 retain traditional thatching, primarily serving as private residences. Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama has defined the Kyoto landscape for over a century, spanning the Katsura River. The bridge's aesthetic transforms with the seasons—cherry blossoms frame it in spring, lush foliage in summer, crimson leaves in autumn, and frost in winter, creating scenes worthy of period dramas. Its name derives from a poetic concept of the moon passing overhead like a ferry crossing water, aptly capturing the structure's graceful character. The Sagano Bamboo Forest extends 500 meters through Arashiyama, accessible by walking past Nonomiya Shrine toward Okochi Sanso Villa. As you move through towering bamboo stalks, wind whistling through the canopy produces sounds recognized among Japan's 100 most valued acoustic phenomena deserving preservation.
