Overview

Wanosato lies in the forested Miya River valley below Mt. Kuraiyama, south of Takayama's old town. Its main building is a relocated farmhouse about 160 years old, centred on a large irori hearth where a local storyteller serves kappo-zake after dinner. Rooms are few: three detached annex houses, including a gassho-zukuri house and a Shunkei-lacquer suite, and three rooms in the main building, all with hinoki or stone indoor baths. The on-site Hida Kuraiyama spring fills a rock bath and a hinoki bath, which can be used privately. Dinner is a Japanese kaiseki in private dining rooms. The inn announced a MICHELIN Key in 2024.
