Overview

Hoshokaku stands on the slope of Shiroyama Park, where Takayama Castle once stood, a short walk from the Jinya morning market and the old merchant streets. Corridors are laid with tatami, and rooms range from Japanese to Japanese-Western and twin rooms; eleven top-floor rooms add a private open-air bath with a city view. The men's and women's baths each have two open-air tubs, one using Takayama onsen water. Dinner is a Hida kaiseki built around A5 Hida beef, served in the inn's dining rooms, several of them private. A 140-tatami banquet hall and group plans make it a practical base for tours.
