Ginzan Onsen Fujiya Inn

Fujiya sits mid-way along the Taisho-era street of Ginzan Onsen, and all eight rooms face the Ginzan River. The three-storey wooden inn, first opened in the Edo period, was rebuilt in 2005-06 to a design by Kengo Kuma's office, using washi walls and screens. There is no shared bath: guests use five private baths - cedar, bamboo, stone, an underground tub and a roofed semi-open-air bath - whenever one is free, day or night, all fed with flowing hot spring water. Dinner and breakfast are served in the room. Rooms are Japanese or Western, three with a separate private bathtub.

Oishida Station is about 40 min away (20 km); the inn runs a reservation-only pickup around 13:30 and 15:30 and a drop-off around 10:30. Cars park at the inn's lot near the Ginzan entrance, about 8 min walk; staff collect guests by car on request.
