About this experience
Ninety minutes across Osaka rather than around one district: south to Tsutenkaku and the retro lanes of Shinsekai, past the glass of Abeno Harukas, north to the walls of Osaka Castle, then down the ginkgo-lined Midosuji boulevard to America-mura.
Osaka's sights are spread north to south: the castle in the north, the retro district of Shinsekai in the south and the Midosuji boulevard between them. This route strings them together instead of staying in one area.
From Namba you head south to Tsutenkaku and the lanes of Shinsekai, pass the glass tower of Abeno Harukas, then drive north to the stone walls and moat of Osaka Castle. The return runs down Midosuji, lined with ginkgo trees, to America-mura. The drive lasts ninety minutes, with starts at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00.
Choose it over the Dotonbori route if you want the castle and Shinsekai as well as the city centre.
The route is a good preview of where to spend the rest of your stay: Osaka Castle Park and its museum in the north, Shinsekai's kushikatsu restaurants in the south, the view from the top of Abeno Harukas, and the shops of Midosuji in between.
