About this experience

The electric town at night: a round in a multi-floor arcade, rare gachapon hunting, what maid cafés actually are (window view is fine), and how Akihabara became the otaku capital.

Akihabara by day is a crowded electronics district. Akihabara at night is where the culture is actually running: arcades still lit past midnight, a different world on every floor, and the people inside are players rather than visitors taking photos.

Two and a half hours moves vertically rather than horizontally, because Akihabara is built in storeys. A multi-floor arcade: the claw-machine floor, the rhythm-game floor where somebody is good enough to have drawn a small crowd, the fighting-game floor with a hand-written ranking taped to the wall. A corridor of several hundred gachapon capsule machines, each dispensing one small useless lovely thing. A second-hand shop where thirty-year-old figures are wrapped like antiques. And a late-night restaurant of the kind the neighbourhood actually eats in.

Your guide explains what you can't read off the surface: what doujinshi are, why an entire floor is devoted to one franchise, where photography is fine and where it absolutely isn't. This tour does NOT go into a maid café — if you want one, your guide will point you to a reputable place and explain the pricing rules, but it isn't part of the price.
