For families and theme-park people who want the full day in the park without wasting the evening, ending among the lights of Dotonbori.

The gates before opening
JR Osaka Loop Line to Nishikujo, change to the Yumesaki Line, two stops to Universal City; about 15 minutes from Osaka Station. Be in the queue an hour before the posted opening, because the park often opens early and the first thirty minutes decide your day. Buy the studio pass online in advance; the price changes by date and the ticket booths queue longest.

Super Nintendo World
Go straight there: open the park app the moment you enter and draw a timed-entry ticket for the area, or walk in directly if entry is not yet restricted. Mario Kart is the headline ride, Yoshi's Adventure the gentle one, and a Power-Up Band lets you punch blocks and collect coins across the land. The Donkey Kong Country extension adds a mine-cart coaster; check its wait early.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Cross the park to Hogsmeade, snow on the roofs in every season. Ride Forbidden Journey first (the single-rider line if the wait is long), then Flight of the Hippogriff, and get a Butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks around 12:30 for a lunch that is more atmosphere than food. The wand-choosing show at Ollivanders is short and worth queuing for with children.

Afternoon coasters and the parade
Spend the afternoon on the big coasters, Hollywood Dream and the Flying Dinosaur, and on whatever seasonal area is running; the Jaws boat and the Jurassic Park river ride are the classics and will soak you. Check the app for the parade time and stand along the route near the entrance a little early. Leave around 17:00 to beat the exit crush at the station.

5Ebisu Bridge at dusk
Yumesaki Line back to Nishikujo, then the Hanshin Namba Line straight through to Osaka-Namba, about 25 minutes. Walk five minutes to Ebisu Bridge for the Glico running man sign lit up over the Dotonbori canal; the crowd on the bridge is part of the picture. Blue hour, roughly 30 minutes after sunset, is the moment.

6Dotonbori dinner
Walk the canal-side street with its moving crab, giant puffer fish and dragon signs. Takoyaki from a stand first, then okonomiyaki or kushikatsu at a counter; queues at the famous names move quickly. Hozenji Yokocho, one lane south, is a stone alley of small restaurants under lanterns where the moss-covered Fudo statue is splashed with water for luck.

Tips
The Yumesaki Line via Nishikujo is the only rail into the park; IC cards work, and from Nishikujo the Hanshin Namba Line takes you to Dotonbori without changing at Osaka Station.
You will walk well over 10 km inside the park; the most comfortable shoes you own, and a light bag with a bottle you can refill.
Eat lunch early or late, at 11:00 or after 14:00; park restaurants queue longest around 12:30, and Dotonbori is dinner anyway.
Peach's Castle and the Mount Beanstalk view are shot from the entrance stairs of Super Nintendo World; the Glico sign is best from the west side of Ebisu Bridge.
