About this experience

The Subaru Line climbs to 2,300 m on Fuji's north face, where the treeline ends and the crater rim is directly overhead. Most options pair it with the Chureito pagoda view, the Oshino Hakkai spring ponds, or Hakone's ropeway and lake ship on the way back.

At 3,776 m, Mount Fuji is the tallest peak in Japan, and in 2013 UNESCO listed it as a cultural site for its role in worship and art. The Fuji Subaru Line road climbs the northern flank to the 5th Station at roughly 2,300 m, where the forest ends, the view drops over forest toward the lakes below, and the summit looks close. This is also the start of the Yoshida Trail, the most climbed route to the top.

Coaches set out from Shinjuku, Tokyo Station or Shibuya. A simple version spends the day on the 5th Station, with time for Komitake Shrine and the lookout terraces. Other options add the Chureito Pagoda above Fujiyoshida, the spring-fed ponds of Oshino Hakkai with Oishi Park on Lake Kawaguchi, or Hakone's ropeway and a boat on Lake Ashi. Climbers can try a short walk up to the 6th Station or a 2-day summit trip with a mountain hut night.

Weather rules everything here. The road can close in fog or snow, and in winter the coach will stop lower down the mountain, where the plan shifts to snow play near the 2nd Station. Clouds often gather by late morning, so early clear days are worth more. It is several degrees colder than Tokyo at the 5th Station, and the thinner air can make stairs feel harder. Summit climbs only run from July to September.
