Non-Japanese citizens who are visiting Japan for the purpose of sightseeing and traveling on a temporary visitor visa.
Required reading
- Conditions of use: 1. This pass may only be used by the rail pass purchaser. 2. Please carry your passport with you whenever you use the pass. 3. The pass cannot be used on JR Kyushu buses, B&S Miyazaki buses, the Cruise Train Seven Stars in Kyushu, or the ARU RESSHA (Sweet Train). 4. The pass cannot be used on the Sanyo Shinkansen (between Hakata and Kokura). 5. Use of Green Cars is subject to an additional fee. Passes do not authorize holders to access the private rooms or compartments of any Green Car. 6. The pass is valid only within the JR Kyushu service area, even though some lines in Kyushu may be operated by other companies. 7. Travel on trains outside your pass's designated coverage area is subject to an additional fee or charge. 8. No refunds will be issued if seating is unavailable due to full occupancy.
- Regarding the validity period of the JR Kyushu Rail Pass: The pass must be used on consecutive days. For example, a 3-day validity period means January 1, 2, and 3. You may not use the pass on non-consecutive days (with intervals in between).
- How to use: The JR Kyushu Rail Pass can be used at automatic ticket gates. Please be careful not to forget to pick it up.
- JR Kyushu Rail Passes cannot be used for Shinkansen (bullet train) rides between Hakata and Kokura because this section is part of the Sanyo Shinkansen operated by JR West.
- Applicable trains: 1. Reserved and non-reserved seats on all Shinkansen (Mizuho, Sakura, and Tsubame) within the designated coverage area. *The pass cannot be used for the section between Hakata and Kokura. 2. Reserved and non-reserved seats on all limited express trains within the designated coverage area. 3. Local trains within the designated coverage area. *Green Car (first-class car) use is permitted but subject to an additional charge. Customers with a JR Kyushu Rail Pass exchange voucher can reserve seats in advance using the JR KYUSHU RAIL PASS Online Booking service before exchanging the voucher for the pass. Advance seat reservation fees (per seat): • D&S Trains (Sightseeing Trains): ¥1,500 • Regular Limited Express Trains: ¥1,000 *Half price for children. *For the limited express “36 Plus 3,” fees vary depending on the section. Reserved seats can be booked from 10:00 a.m. one month before the boarding date. *The reservation fee is paid directly by credit card when booking on the JR Kyushu website.
Restrictions
- ①You must hold a passport issued by a country other than Japan. ②You must reside outside Japan and are visiting Japan on a temporary visitor visa(*). Those who satisfy conditions ①and ②above. *When entering Japan, please receive proof of "temporary visitor" with a stamp or seal on your passport. If you are using an automated gate when entering Japan、please offer to the airport staff and receive a certificate from your passport with a stamp or seal.
- The pass price for children (ages 6 to 11) is half the adult price. A child's age is determined as of the purchase date.
