Venue and Map
The main venues for the Kyotamba Fireworks Festival are Shuchi River Waterfront Park and the area around Shuchi Shopping Street, particularly the area next to Roadside Station Tanba Marquees. The launch site is close to this area, allowing visitors to enjoy spectacular fireworks from nearby. Special-stage events and numerous food stalls around the venue add to the festive atmosphere.
Getting There
The Kyotamba Fireworks Festival can be reached by either public transportation or car, but heavy congestion is expected on the day of the event, so public transportation is recommended.
By Public Transportation
Take the JR Sagano Line to Sonobe Station, then transfer to a Chukyo Kotsu bus bound for Hiyama on the Enpuku Line. Get off at the Shinshuchi bus stop, and the venue will be right in front of you. The bus ride from Sonobe Station takes approximately 15 minutes. After the fireworks end, only one bus bound for Sonobe Station is scheduled to depart from Shinshuchi Station at 21:30, so be careful not to miss it.
By Car
From the Tamba IC on the Kyoto Jukan Expressway, the area around the venue is approximately 1 minute away via National Route 9. Several parking areas are available around the venue, including the lot at Roadside Station Tanba Marquees. The parking lot at Roadside Station Tanba Marquees can accommodate approximately 550 vehicles, but it tends to fill up early each year. The organizers also provide temporary parking areas, but because congestion is expected, visitors are encouraged to use public transportation whenever possible.
Traffic Restrictions Traffic restrictions will be in place around the venue from 15:00 until approximately 22:00 on the day of the fireworks festival. Detour routes may also be announced, so check the latest information in advance on the official website of the Kyotamba Town Chamber of Commerce or other sources.
Be Careful of the Last Train Home Public transportation becomes extremely crowded after the fireworks festival ends. If you are coming from farther away, be sure to check the departure time of the last train from JR Sonobe Station in advance and allow plenty of time.
Paid Seating and Tickets
There are no paid viewing areas at the Kyotamba Fireworks Festival. All seating is free, so visitors can watch the fireworks at no charge. If you want a good viewing spot, arriving early and reserving a place is recommended. Bring a picnic sheet or similar item so you can enjoy the fireworks comfortably.
Recommended Hidden Spots
The launch site is close at the Kyotamba Fireworks Festival, and you can enjoy spectacular fireworks from anywhere around the venue. Here are several lesser-known spots where you may be able to watch at a more relaxed pace.
Shuchi Park Shuchi Park is recommended for those who prefer to avoid the crowds at the main venue. Since it is a little farther from the venue, you can watch the fireworks in a calm setting away from the crowds. The park's spacious grounds are ideal for relaxing on a picnic sheet while enjoying the display.
Roadside Station Kyotamba (around the dog run) Roadside Station Tanba Marquees is adjacent to the main venue and gets very busy, but you may be able to enjoy a more relaxed view from areas a little farther away, such as around the dog run at Roadside Station Kyotamba. Another option is to enjoy a meal or some shopping at the roadside station before the festival, then look for a viewing spot nearby.
Grassy Area Along the Shuchi River (near the rear parking lot) The grassy area near the rear parking lot close to the launch site (as viewed from Roadside Station Tanba Marquees) is also known as a relatively easy-to-secure hidden viewing spot. There are few obstructions along the Shuchi River, giving you a wide, unobstructed view of the fireworks. Bringing a folding camping chair or table can make your time there even more comfortable.
These lesser-known spots may also become crowded depending on the time of day, so arriving early is essential.
