Enjoy Otaru's spectacular scenery and history, with a visit to Shiroi Koibito Park! Designated as a Japan Heritage site in 2025, Otaru is a town rich in history and beautiful scenery. This special sightseeing bus tour lets you fully experience Otaru while also visiting Sapporo's popular attraction, Shiroi Koibito Park. The first stop, the Otaru Tenguyama Ropeway, is a popular location known as a sacred site for film shoots. The summit station has five observation decks, whose views of Otaru's streets, the Sea of Japan, and the mountains rising in the distance are recognized as component cultural properties of Japan Heritage. The summit station also offers shops, cafes, a ski museum, a Siberian chipmunk park, a zipline, and many other activities and attractions beyond its spectacular views. The Glass Studio in Otaru※ is located at the foot of Mount Tengu. You can watch glassmaking in progress and, with advance reservations, try glass blowing for approximately 10–20 minutes! ※Closed every Tuesday. After enjoying the views, it is time for lunch. At Otaru Bine, a former Hokkaido Bank Head Office built during the Meiji period and renovated into a restaurant, you can enjoy grilled seafood in a setting filled with history. Savor Otaru specialties such as marinated herring and seasonal seafood. After lunch, the tour visits the Former Nippon Yusen Otaru Branch※. Built in 1906 in a modern European revival style, this building is both a component cultural property of Japan Heritage and a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan. Its luxurious interior features finely crafted details, including column designs, wallpaper, and ceiling decorations, telling the story of Otaru's prosperity in days gone by. ※The building is closed every Tuesday and on September 24, so it will not be visited. The Otaru walking portion will instead last approximately three hours. After visiting the historic building, get off at Otaru Canal Terminal and enjoy free time exploring Otaru! Nearby attractions include Otaru Canal, Demuki Koji, Sakaimachi Street, and popular destinations along the street such as Kitaichi Glass, Otaru Music Box Museum, and Kitakaro. We recommend deciding in advance which places you would like to visit. On the way back to Sapporo, the tour stops at the confectionery theme park Shiroi Koibito Park for sightseeing and shopping※. Highlights include an English garden filled with approximately 200 rose bushes and seasonal flowers, as well as a mechanical clock tower where animal automata perform a cheerful parade every hour. ※Admission to the paid area is optional.
