In this activity, you will use high-quality Uji matcha that would otherwise be discarded because it cannot be sold as food to handcraft matcha incense that releases a gentle “matcha aroma” when heated. The incense is shaped using wooden molds traditionally used for wagashi, resulting in beautiful pieces that look like exquisite tea confections and are irresistibly captivating to admire.
The activity takes place inside a temple at the Kyoto Uji Tourist Center. Although located in a bustling area, it retains a tranquil atmosphere.
