CAVE OKINAWA Admission Ticket

Some locals call CAVE OKINAWA “Nuchishinuji-gama,” meaning “the cave that preserved lives,” in the Okinawan dialect. It is revered by the local community and known as a blessed place associated with good fortune. The name comes from the cave’s history of saving lives on two occasions. The first was during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. According to legend, the prince of Nakijin Castle, now a World Heritage Site, fled into this cave after a battle and survived before later building Iha Castle. The second was during the Battle of Okinawa, when around 300 residents took shelter in the cave and everyone survived. A boy and a girl were also born during the evacuation, further adding to the cave’s reputation as a place of good fortune. This cave is said to have preserved many lives and has become known as a spiritual power spot. One of the highlights at CAVE OKINAWA is its exceptionally rare red-and-white stalactite formation, which serves as a symbol of the cave. This area is where the children were born and is considered especially auspicious. The cave also features numerous formations, including Golden Rock, believed to enhance financial luck, Sparkling Stones, and countless icicle-like stalactites. You can also see Heart Rock, a heart-shaped opening that is perfect for social media photos, and enjoy a mystical cave exploration. The lighting and walkways were renewed in February 2018. The cave takes approximately 30 minutes to explore, making it easy to enjoy between other sightseeing activities or outings in Okinawa. The illuminated, fantastical interior is not to be missed!
